The Centre For Sustainable Communities

The Centre for Sustainable Communities (CSC) focuses on sustainable urbanism, transport and energy.

At the Centre we teach placemaking skills such as charrette processes for developing and 'retrofitting' sustainable communities in urban and rural locations, and our approach incorporates a range of expertise in the built environment including planning, urban design, transport planning and environmental management among others.

The CSC is also engaged in short courses:
  • NCI™ short courses April 2012 on community engagement using charrettes (intensive design and planning processes that involve community stakeholders), leading to certification by the National Charrette Institute – to find out more go to the NCI short course page

  • Running 'mini' charrettes, including for UHArts and for UH Recruitment and Access, and as part of the recent ‘This is Not a Gateway’ festival in London
